Topsy-Turvy

Sometimes we need life to turn us upside down, how else would we learn to live the right side up?

Life is unpredictable and it leaves us feeling confused, angry, sad, lost, asking ourselves why is this happening to me?

Obstacles, tragedies, losses, disappointments are all part of life's journey. You can spend a lifetime ruminating about them or you can take charge over your body.

Stay in the moment. Everything starts with a thought, remind yourself that this is just a thought. This thought will pass and another will come. Look around and gently shift your focus onto something else and ask yourself what can you do in this moment that is kind and loving for you.

Ground yourself- I cannot emphasize enough the importance of grounding. It helps you feel strong, fully present and connected with your body. It calms you down, it recharges your energy and it clears your mind.

Breathe- In almost every post I highlight the importance of breathing. Close your eyes and take a deep breath. Notice how the air feels as it enters your nose and you feel your lungs expand. Do the same as you exhale.

Feel your feet- Place awareness to the soles of your feet and notice the sensations.

Stand like a tree- This is a very powerful grounding technique. It is healing and helps reconnect you with the earth's magical potential. If you can, try and make direct contact with nature by either immersing your feet in water, sand, soil, moss or grass. Visualise you are standing in a field and the sun is shining down on you. You are solid, strong and wise. Bring awareness to your feet and notice the contact with the ground. Now imagine roots growing down your spine all the way through the soles of your feet, deep into the earth. They are growing and spreading outwards and deeper towards the centre of the earth. Feel how anchored and solid you are.

As you exhale push all the unwanted thoughts and negative energy downwards towards your roots and out into the earth. Allow the tension and tightness to drain from your shoulders, chest, head, eyes, jaw, legs and any other part of your body.

As you inhale start to visualise your roots slowly soaking up that magical energy filled with nutrients from the earth into your roots, through your feet, your spine and spreading all around your body nourishing you.

Taking some time to ground yourself daily can help improve your overall mental and physical wellbeing. It can help increase your awareness of your body, recharge your energy and clear your mind.
